Summary: Sora needs a place to stay, and asks asylum to the woman that has changed her perspective of a hierarchic society.
A/N: Apparently I’ve lost all control on my own writing. Not betaed, all mistakes are mine.

Everything here gravitates around her. Elizabeth Weir.
The name itself reflects her very being, strong and feminine and beautiful.

She relies on her people as much as they rely on her, and the perfect balance of opposite forces keeps them upright. She accords them her trust, and all she asks in return is honesty.
I have never seen such loyalty towards a leader that wasn’t achieved through the use of force and intimidation, on my world, or a man respond to the gentle firmness of her orders the way her subordinates do, for that matter.

It shouldn’t surprise me so much given the way I’m reacting to her simple presence. Harmless to the weakest of warriors, determined and dignified even with a gun pointed at her chest, she draws me to her in a way that feels almost physical.

I am by all means a war prisoner in this city, and unmeant threats long forgotten, I can plead to her good heart and offer to put my abilities at her service.

Suspicion is etched in her strong features, but she looks willing to hear what I have to say, and I bow my head slightly in submission as I wait for a reaction from her part. Sheppard is still eyeing me warily from his position half a step behind Elizabeth, his annoyance badly concealed by his transparent body language.

I don’t really care about what he thinks, though, it’s her I want to impress.

“And so you’d like to stay.” When she speaks it sounds more like a statement to herself than a question, but I feel compelled to answer anyway.

“Yes, with your permission. I am skilled at weapons, and I am familiar with some of the technology used here.”

“Which is exactly my main concern.” One eyebrow goes up, and she sighs. Her shoulders slump with exhaustion for a moment before she gathers what’s left of her strength and straightens herself up again.

“Your people has already proven to be untrustworthy, I have far more evidence of that than I would like to. You were amongst the leaders of the assault that caused the death of two of my people, and you directly challenged a member of my flag team in the attempt to avenge your father. With questionable reasons, I might add.”

I feel Teyla move behind me, feline and graceful even in her plain earth clothes, and Elizabeth’s eyes leave mine as she follows the other woman’s movements. She takes place beside her leader, arms crossed, and I’m unprepared for the pang of jealousy that strikes me as I watch the silent communication between them.
Permission to speak up is asked, and granted, with a single shared look.

“Sora is still very young, and inexperienced. I am led to believe that her hostile feelings towards us have been instilled in her mind by the older soldiers.” She’s careful not to use the word, but it’s clear to me now that I’ve been unceremoniously used to serve Koyla’s own dirty purposes. The way these people live have finally showed me that.

Sheppard opens his mouth to protest, and Elizabeth silences him with a gentle hand on his forearm before he has the first word out.
She touches her people a lot, rewarding those that have worked well, and comforting those that have lost hope. I wonder how long it will take before she trusts me enough to offer some of the warmth she has inside to me, too, and quench the thirst of my skin.

“Fine.” Her voice echoes faintly off the distant walls. “There’s not much we can do now, so you’ll be spending the night in one of our spare quarters, locked in and with no access to any facility or technology in the city. I’ll make my final decision tomorrow, after I’ve had a chance to talk to you more thoroughly. Although I’m ready to give you a chance if my men agree this is the case.”
Relief washes over me at the sound of her words, melting the tension and reminding me of just how tired I am.

Sleep won’t come easily tonight, I’m aware of that. There’s too much I need to rethink and deal with, with my share of responsibility for the broken lives of more than sixty people, mostly my own, at the top of the list.

I’m only half-listening as Elizabeth discusses my sleeping arrangements with Teyla and Lieutenant Ford and then retires in a corner with a very edgy Sheppard for a few quick words.

“Make sure the room is free of any potential weapons she could use against us, and that includes any access to our database.” She reminds them after she has bid her goodbyes.

Elizabeth halts next to me on her way out of the room. She’s standing so close I can smell the sharp tang of her wet clothes and the vague hint of an artificial perfume.

“Don’t make me regret this.”
Her voice is low and cool, her breath warm and sweet, and her fingers cool and warm at the same time as they brush my right arm for the most fleeting of moments. And then she’s gone, leaving butterflies dancing in my stomach and my skin burning where she touched me.

As Teyla and the young Lieutenant escort me to my temporary quarters, I think of her paleness, and wonder whether she, too, would burn under a woman’s touch.
