I liked it better when it was just me and Sam.
I lulled her to sleep when she was tired, caressing her with blankets, and warmed her in winter.
She shared all her dreams with me.
And then he came.
The Intruder.
Duh.
He just arrived and thought he could do what had always been my prerogative.
Stupid Intruder loves to bounce on me, and she does that sometimes, too. The springs in my mattress squeak and feel all sore, and I’ve already hit my head against the wall several times.
Here they come.
Tired.
Just a kiss goodnight.

H is for Happiness

There are two versions…an angsty one

“Jack?”
“Mmh?” His lips vibrate against my neck.
“Are you happy?” I hear him whisper my name as he tightens his arms around me. He knows what I mean. He always does.
My eyes meet his, reflected on the window glass, and he looks away. I close my eyes in bittersweet anticipation, his silence roaring in my ears like a F-14 at mach 3 .
I feel his grip on me loosen and cold seeping in to my very bones when he’s not touching me anymore.
I knew.
But I loved the illusion.
I wonder if I’ll ever be warm again.


and since I owe Sam cuddles, a really sappy one.

“Jack?”
“Mmh?” His lips vibrate against my neck.

“You still think too much, ya know.” His reflection on the window smiles for a moment, then looks away. I close my eyes in bittersweet anticipation.
“Past is…past. Can’t be changed.”
I know, but it still doesn’t dissipate my doubts. And the hint of (sadness? disappointment?) in his voice…
He drops a tender kiss on my bare shoulder. “I didn’t think I could ever be, but I am.”


I should really stop writing after 1.00 in the morning…
